Foot Blisters & How to Prevent Them
Nothing disrupts a fun day out like a painful blister, especially when it’s your little one doing the hobbling. Thankfully, there are simple ways to treat and, better yet, prevent blisters from forming in the first place. Here are some helpful tips for parents to know.

How to heal foot blisters
When it comes to treating blisters, less is more. If the blister is small and hasn’t burst, it’s best to leave it be. The skin acts as a natural barrier against infection and supports healing.
Should you pop a blister on the foot? No, this can cause infection, introduce bacteria and delay healing. If the blister does pop, keep the area clean and cover the blister in a breathable, non-stick bandage to protect it while it heals.

How to prevent foot blisters
Blisters often come down to one thing: friction. Shoes that are too tight can rub, and shoes that are too loose can allow the foot to move excessively, also leading to rubbing. This is why the perfect fit in both size and width is so important!
At Shoes & Sox we advise wearing all shoes with socks or tights at home before heading out for longer wear. It helps the shoes settle to their feet in a controlled environment. This can be overlooked during warmer weather, as children often skip socks with open toe shoes over other types of footwear, like boots and sneakers which can cause painful blisters to form on the area of friction. A short “break-in” period indoors can make all the difference.
